About Sector

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector recorded 18.1% growth in 2015 with total revenue generated at US$ 2.2 billion[1]. The industry is facing several issues ranging from lack of skilled and professional staff, reluctance of women joining the workforce because of social and cultural norms, perceptions about the sector, and difficulty in retaining staff that run the risk of hindering growth.

CARE Sri Lanka played a pivotal role in this sector, to help both women and youth gain skills related to the hospitality sector and engaged with the corporate sector to create better work places that helps retain staff.

  • Research and analysis to provide innovative solutions and approaches, Facilitating training for women and youth to match industry requirements,
  • Provide training on key issues related to the industry on gender, labour, leadership, and conflict management, and
  • Facilitating dialogue between workers and management.
