The RTM Project – Meaningful Engagement of Plantation Communities in Democracy and Governance was designed to strengthen the participation of plantation and neighbouring village communities in local democratic and governance processes.
Implemented by Chrysalis with funding from CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg and the European Union – Sri Lanka & Maldives, the project worked to bridge gaps between communities and local authorities, ensuring that marginalised voices, especially from plantation sectors, were heard and represented in decision-making spaces.
The primary beneficiaries were plantation sector workers and surrounding village communities, who gained greater awareness of their civic rights and improved access to local government services. Local government officials also benefited through enhanced capacity for inclusive communication and community engagement.
This project was made possible through the generous support of our donors, whose contributions played a vital role in planning, implementation, and successful delivery. Their commitment to social impact and sustainable development helped drive meaningful change and ensured that the project objectives were achieved for the benefit of the communities involved.
