The BRIDGE Project strengthens inclusive governance, transparency, and civic participation in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province by connecting communities, civil society, and public institutions to advance human rights and fundamental freedoms. In post-conflict contexts where women and youth often face systemic barriers to political participation and civic engagement, the project creates structured opportunities for dialogue, accountability, and collective action.

By empowering community leaders, human rights defenders, and civil society actors, BRIDGE supports communities to translate citizen concerns into constructive engagement with decision-makers. The project also promotes greater transparency and responsiveness within governance systems by facilitating collaboration between civic actors, media, legal institutions, and local authorities. Through these efforts, BRIDGE contributes to strengthening democratic participation, rebuilding public trust in institutions, and enabling communities to play an active role in shaping inclusive and accountable governance processes.

The IGNITE Project strengthens women’s and youth leadership in building resilient, inclusive communities across southern and Uva Sri Lanka. The project promotes gender equality, economic rights, and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), while supporting local groups to lead social and economic development in their own villages.

IGNITE works with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), producer groups, farmer networks, and Women’s Watch Groups to improve access to livelihood support, social protection services, and psychosocial assistance. Using a Gender Transformative Approach, the project shifts harmful norms and builds systems where women can safely participate in decision-making, enterprise development, and community leadership.

Through joint platforms, advocacy, and partnerships with government and private sector actors, IGNITE strengthens the role of CSOs as local leaders of inclusive growth and governance.

The DAP project strengthens women-led producer groups working in the vegetable and floriculture value chains, helping them expand their enterprises while caring for the environment.

By introducing circular economy practices such as:

• sustainable farming
• smart water management
• biowaste recycling
• renewable energy utilization

the project builds both economic resilience and climate resilience.

It also addresses the connection between economic insecurity and gender-based violence, empowering women’s groups to reduce risks, increase safety, and create more secure futures for themselves and their communities.

The FICE project supports communities across Sri Lanka to turn diversity into strength. By empowering women, youth, and marginalized groups to build resilient, sustainable businesses, FICE creates opportunities that improve livelihoods while strengthening social cohesion.

Through green and inclusive business models, the project brings people from different ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds together, fostering collaboration, trust, and shared progress. When communities work side-by-side, economies grow stronger and more connected, and new networks of cooperation take root.

Farmers’ Voice Radio (FVR) is an innovative agricultural learning model that uses radio as a community knowledge-sharing platform. The program connects smallholder tea farmers with practical, timely, and gender-sensitive farming guidance, delivered in their own voices, languages, and cultural context.

By amplifying the perspectives of women and smallholder farmers, FVR challenges traditional power structures and promotes equal voice, decision-making, and leadership within tea-farming households and communities. It helps farmers adopt improved farming practices, diversify income opportunities, and strengthen resilience to economic and environmental change.

The Farmer Field Business School (FFBS) is a gender-transformative, market-based, and nutrition-sensitive agricultural learning model that strengthens the skills and leadership of small-scale women farmers. FFBS supports farmers to improve productivity, profitability, climate resilience, and equitable participation in agricultural markets.

In Sri Lanka, the FFBS model is implemented under the Improved and Sustainable Agriculture Project, focusing on the groundnut, black gram, and backyard poultry value chains. The approach fosters peer-to-peer learning, group problem-solving, and shared decision-making, encouraging women to lead change within both their households and communities.
