A three-day Digital Marketing Training Programme for public
officers was successfully conducted in Anuradhapura by the Business Service Centre
(BSC) on the 19th, 20th and 27th of May under the leadership of Mr. Sugath Nayanananda, Director of Planning.
The programme brought together officers from the Export
Development Board (EDB), National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA),
Small Enterprise Development Division (SEDD), and Social Empowerment
Development Officers with the objective of strengthening their knowledge and
practical skills in digital marketing. Key focus areas included social media
management, digital profile creation, and digital content design.
The training combined both theoretical and hands-on learning
experiences, utilizing the facilities of the BSC computer laboratory to provide
participants with practical exposure to digital tools and platforms. Through
interactive sessions and guided exercises, officers gained valuable skills that
can be applied in their professional roles to support entrepreneurs and local
businesses.
A highlight of the programme was the practical application
component, where participants developed digital profiles for entrepreneurs and
presented their work on the final day. These presentations provided an
opportunity for participants to showcase their learning outcomes, share
implementation experiences, and discuss challenges encountered during the
process.
Beyond enhancing digital literacy, the programme aimed to
strengthen the capacity of public officers to act as facilitators of regional
economic development. Equipped with new digital skills and knowledge,
participants are now better positioned to support entrepreneurs, small
businesses, women-led enterprises, and marginalized communities in leveraging
digital platforms for growth and market access.
The programme was supported by the Promoting Economic
Justice for Women (PEJW) Project as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering
sustainable and inclusive systemic change.
Special appreciation is extended to Ms. Thimasha de Costa, Development
Officer – Planning, who served as the resource person for the programme. Her
engaging and practical approach to training, coupled with her role as a strong
example of women’s leadership in digital and technical fields, greatly
contributed to the success of the programme and inspired participants
throughout the training.
