The Launch of the One-Stop Business Service Centre in Monaragala
The launch of the One-Stop Business Service Centre (OBSC) in Monaragala marked a major milestone in Chrysalis’ efforts to strengthen rural entrepreneurship. Established under the EU-funded Enterprise Development Project, the centre was formally opened in late 2020 with the participation of government officials, private-sector partners, and civil-society representatives. The OBSC’s mission is to eliminate the fragmentation faced by MSMEs by centralising services such as business registration, permit support, skills development, and market linkage facilitation.
The event showcased how local entrepreneurs—especially women and youth—could benefit from streamlined access to regulatory institutions and training providers. Chrysalis highlighted that the centre’s design was based on findings from local enterprise assessments, which revealed that most small businesses lacked the information and institutional access necessary for growth.
The launch also included a demonstration of digital tools and capacity-building programs that would later support hundreds of Monaragala entrepreneurs.
