Ms. Amali (40 years) has four children who stay at Mallankulama village in Bogahayaya GN at Mahakumbukkadawala DS division. A daughter aged 14 and a son who is nine years old are with her. Two elder girls got married and stayed with their husbands in another village. Younger Son was infected with a germ while giving birth and now he has to go to clinics every month in Kurunegala and Puttlam.

Amali got married in 2000 and after nineteen years her husband died, he was a carpenter. Amali does not have a steady income. She depends on government monthly welfare payments. Because of the younger son having physical problems cannot go outside for work.  She cannot leave the child and go to work peacefully. The son also has respiratory problems and occasional fits which cost additional medications.

One of the foreigners donated Amalie's house considering the request made by DS of the area. However, this project has helped   Amali get past the critical times of her life when she is solely dependent on the awesome which brings 8500rupee to monthly expenses. She has to manage the month with that little money.

However, chrysalis implemented a Multipurpose cash grant program in the area with a donation from Global Buddhist Relief. She was lucky enough to get benefits from that fund. A selection committee appointed by the DS of the particular area her name was nominated. After the selection and screening process Chrysalis transferred 20000 rupees to her bank account.

During that period Amali was unable to cover their daily expenses such as payment of water and electricity bills. Those bills were overdue and about to disconnect from the service. With the cash she received, immediately her outstanding water (Rs 6500) and electricity bills (Rs 2500). In addition to that she spent some money to purchase stationery items for her schooling daughter and spent for the medication of their son. She was very happy and highly appreciated the money she received from the chrysalis. “If I did not receive this money, we would have to live without water and electricity. Water board as well as the Electricity board have sent the red notice informing the cutting of connections”.
